  • Forksta™ Original - NZ Made Garden Fork

The right garden tool can change everything.

The Forksta is for the gardeners who are done with throwaway tools. Owning a Forksta marks the shift from making do with whatever is in the shed, to having tools that give you purpose in the garden. When you own a Forksta you are saying you are here to do it properly with gear that will last season after season.

Handcrafted in our workshop, New Zealand.

    Description

The Forksta Original is perfect for aerating soil, loosening compacted ground, and digging up root crops or hardier shrubs.

Our Forksta is built with sharp, tapered tines that glide deep into the ground and gently lift creating air and water pathways while leaving the soil’s living structure intact. No flipping. Just opening it up to breathe. Soil is our number one priority in the garden and soil needs oxygen. When soil is compacted—it loses the air pockets that allow a lot of the underground magic to happen. You can read more about why we aerate the soil here.

Even in no-dig gardens, once beds are established, a Forksta is a great way to aerate soil and help with compaction as there is minimal soil disturbance.

    FAQ

Q: How is the Forksta different from other garden forks?
A: The Forksta is built tough not like other garden forks that break at the sight of hard work. Also the tines are perfectly angled and spaced to reduce effort, making it easier to penetrate the soil and it is ergonomically designed for your body, so you are using your body weight to do the work.

Q: Can you use the Forksta in a no-dig garden bed?
A: Yes, once your no-dig bed is stablished the Forksta allows you to loosen the top layer of soil while preserving the structure of your no-dig bed. You could also use it to loosen the soil before sheet mulching to start your bed. The Forksta is perfect for aerating the soil and managing weeds without disrupting the vital microoganisms and organic matter beneath.

Q: Can you use the Forksta in a raised bed?
A: Raised garden beds can also get compacted over time, and the Forksta can be used by angling the handle slightly and applying controlled leverage to avoid bumping the sides of the bed.

Q: Is the Forksta suitable for compacted or clay soils.
A: Yes! The Forksta is designed witha sturdy sharp heads that cuts through compacted soils, the wide foot bar makes it easy to jump on the fork to ge the tines in and then lever the bar back gently. If you have a heavy clay soil, it may take a while to get the tines right down into the soil, start slow, even just getting the tines in 10cm to begin with. Then you can get some air and organic matter in and over time you will be loosening the soil naturally.
You do need to keep an eye out for rocky soils though and go slow.
